At Smooth Laser, your safety is our top priority. Before booking your laser treatment, please review the following contraindications to ensure you are suitable for treatment. If any of the following apply to you, please do not proceed with booking until you have consulted with us.

Contraindications for Laser Treatment:

• Pregnancy or breastfeeding

• Recent sun exposure or tanning (including sunbeds and fake tan on the treatment area)

• Use of certain medications (e.g., Roaccutane, antibiotics, steroids, or photosensitizing drugs – see list below)

• Active skin conditions (eczema, psoriasis, open wounds, or active cold sores in the treatment area)

• History of keloid scarring or poor wound healing

• Recent cosmetic treatments (chemical peels, microneedling, Botox, fillers in the treatment area)

• Medical conditions affecting skin healing (such as diabetes or autoimmune disorders)

• Epilepsy triggered by light

• Pacemaker or implanted medical devices

Photosensitive Medications to Avoid Before Treatment:

Some medications can increase sensitivity to light, making laser treatment unsafe. If you are taking any of the following, you may need to stop usage before treatment (depending on the medication and your doctor’s advice):

• Roaccutane (Isotretinoin) – must be stopped for at least 6 months before treatment

• Tetracycline antibiotics (Doxycycline, Minocycline)

• Fluoroquinolone antibiotics (Ciprofloxacin, Levofloxacin)

• Sulfonamides (Bactrim, Septrin)

• Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Diclofenac)

• Certain antihistamines (Promethazine, Diphenhydramine)

• Diuretics (Hydrochlorothiazide, Furosemide)

• Oral contraceptives (some formulations may increase sensitivity)

• Antifungal medications (Griseofulvin, Voriconazole)

• Chemotherapy drugs

• St. John’s Wort (a common herbal supplement that increases sun sensitivity)

If you are taking any of these or other medications that may cause photosensitivity, please consult with us before booking.

Keeping Us Informed

If you experience any changes in your health, medications, or skin condition after booking, it is essential to inform your technician before your appointment. This ensures we can provide the safest and most effective treatment for you.
